Field Operations Covers 13-County Radius Smoothly, Efficiently with Xora

Xora Provides Visibility into Field Staff Locations and New Insights into Day-to-Day Operations

Every day, Shawn Bomar goes to work in his Atlanta, Georgia office as Program Manager for Applus Technologies emissions program. With a field operations team of 20 auditors/CSR’s covering 13 counties throughout the metro Atlanta area, Bomar could have his hands full, keeping tabs on everyone’s location throughout the day.

But several years ago, Applus Technologies began using Xora, a mobile workforce management solution that uses GPS technology to provide visibility into  field staff locations. Bomar’s staff carries Samsung phones loaded with the Xora Mobile App.

“We—and our clients—can use Xora to look up field staff locations and see where they are in case we have any follow-up work or ad hoc requests.”

Managing Staff Time, Travel, and Day-toDay Responsibilities is More Effective with Xora

The Applus field staff is responsible for visiting the emission stations in the Atlanta Metropolitan area to verify they are operating according to the guidelines prescribed by the state of Georgia.  “We—and our clients—can use Xora to look up field staff locations and see where they are in case we have any follow-up work or ad hoc requests,” says Bomar. He continues, “We have two team leaders for the field operations staff.  They can look at the map, see who’s assigned to certain areas and dispatch the closest people when something comes up that wasn’t previously scheduled in that area.”

This visibility gives Applus new insights into how their staff is working to keep their time, travel, and day-to-day operations running efficiently. Applus Technologies is a global leader in the vehicle emissions inspection industry. Applus programs help government agencies more effectively address today’s environmental and safety concerns in the face of today’s financial constraints. In Georgia, Applus can help its clients better achieve those goals.

Field Staff Health & Safety

According to Bomar, the greatest advantage Xora offers is “the ability for our team leaders to oversee field operations. Our staff is in the field from 8:00 to 5:00, and often covers a 50-75 mile radius on any given day. We have more than 1,000 stations in our area, so as long as the employees have their phones on them, we can see where they are.” Xora is more than a routing and dispatch tool, though: “If we have someone who’s lost or injured, Xora lets us pinpoint where that person is so we can send assistance to help him find his way out,” says Bomar.

Improved Travel Efficiency
Bomar appreciates that Xora goes beyond simple tracking, as team leaders can review the historical reports to find out where employees have been. This reporting helps Applus create more efficient travel routes. “We can also look at the stops our employees make and determine how long they stop for. We’re tracking their time to see how long it takes them to get from one area of town to the next. We’re working closely with Xora’s support team currently to maximize the application; I know we’re scratching the surface right now,” Bomar concludes.
